Your first solo trip is exciting!

You have the freedom to do what you want, when you want, and really travel anyway you want. Take the train, take a plane, or even backpack to your new destination. Because there is no one else to sway your goals or change your mind, you have the ultimate freedom. But because you are alone, don’t be afraid to ask locals for directions or help. They have some key insight that could be helpful and who knows, you might even make a new friend.

Your trip doesn’t have to be crazy expensive either. You can take your first solo trip in the States before branching out to a solo European backpacking trip. Another thing to remember is that while there will be plenty of good and fun times, there will be down times too. Being by yourself can be lonely at times but remember that it isn’t forever and don’t let it ruin your trip. Get out to social places and spread your wings.

One of the most important things to remember is to be safe. Even if you are traveling alone, have a plan to have someone check in on you. Create a detailed travel plan and leave it with someone so that they know where you should be and when they can expect you. Make sure to do plenty of research to ensure the place you visit is safe.
