This Year’s Denver Startup Week Focused Solely on Women

It’s no secret that women face hardship men don’t when it comes to things like starting and running a business.

With years of women fighting against this mindset, it makes special events like this year’s Denver Startup Week even more exciting – especially when they have a solid focus on celebrating tenacious women in business.

As a whole, Denver Startup Week comes together to host a “celebration of everything entrepreneurial in Denver.” While this is already an exciting and unique event in a wildly creative city, the creators of this event’s seventh occurrence came together last month to truly celebrate women who stand out amongst the crowd.

The startups featured this year were all run by women, and while each of them fell into a different category of business (for example, selling wine or running a restaurant), they all come together with one common problem: each of them has trouble securing funding, like many other female-owned businesses.

Women-owned businesses as a whole have grown 114% since 2000, but there is still plenty of work to be done when it comes to securing capital. Denver Startup Week aimed to make an effort at changing that by providing a central space for investors and female business owners to meet.
