Maybe you forgot about a specific party, or you didn’t have the time to decide what to wear. The holiday season is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year, so even if you don’t feel like going out, you don’t want to disappoint. Here’s how to use what you already have in the closet to create cute and chic looks (or at the very least, not look like a Grinch).

One of the rules among the fashion elite is that there are no seasons. Swinter (summer and winter) means you can wear sandals in December, which is perfect if you don’t have ideal holiday boots. Yes, you might freeze, but that’s what Uber’s for. Or bring your heels with you in a tote bag. You don’t have to wear anything you don’t find comfortable, but never underestimate the power of sparkly footwear.

The vast majority of women have a little black dress. With a little red jacket or a cardigan, things are already looking up. If you prefer pants, wear your favorite suit. Instead of your go-to work blouses, try something a bit more shimmery. In cases like these, even a sequined or colorful scarf can be a top. Don’t take off your jacket, but you can keep it open and show your creation. No one will know it’s not a proper wardrobe garment.

Not a fan of sequins? Don’t have any wearable (clean) black clothes? That’s okay. We can work with any color. A flare skirt and a sweater or a plain blouse will do just fine, and they don’t have to look festive at all. Focus on your makeup, and don’t be afraid to add some red lipstick or a bold eyeshadow. For perfect skin, make sure to moisturize, and then add coconut oil on your face. Wait 15 minutes and start with a foundation. You can use silver or gold eyeshadow to make party stockings. Spill some of that eyeshadow and then blow it all over the tights. You can use body or hair glitter as well.

Speaking of not so festive outfits, if you have a velvet item, this is the perfect time to wear it. Velvet is such a rich fabric; it makes every outfit look more sophisticated and polished. It even works with denim, so it’s safe to assume no woman can say, “I have nothing to wear.”

Still undecided? Treat any holiday party as if you were a wedding guest. Recreate the look, add a pearl necklace or earrings, or some glitter, to show your playful side. Midi dress, a pair of heels and some jewelry will do great. If your hair is a mess, pick it up. It can be a messy bun, high ponytail, doesn’t matter, because we will accessorize it.

Use dry shampoo to style your hair. If you cannot think of anything else, pick it up and take a thin, long necklace. Decorate your hair as if it was a Christmas tree. It won’t look as good as it does on Pinterest but will look better than going without any effort.
