The rides, the livestock and produce expositions, and of course, the food.

Fair food is the real reason that people pack their families into the crowded events with the rides being a close second. But the state fair in Texas has raised the bar on fair food, offering some of the craziest and most delicious concoctions that you’ve probably never heard of.

One of the craziest foods there was the Big Red Chicken. This fair food concoction takes two simple fair foods but adds in a new twist. The Big Red Chicken starts with a simple donut infused with Big Red soda. The infusion makes for one tasty donut that also has a pretty bright red color. To sweeten the deal, the tasty treat is topped with a piece of fried chicken. The overall end product looks like a piece of chicken, floating on a red inner tube, complete with a pair of sunglasses.

Looking for something a little more savory? How about a stuffed fried taco cone? This tasty treat starts with a fried tortilla shaped like an ice cream cone. Inside the taco cone, black beans and cilantro lime rice are stuffed inside and topped with slow cooked barbacoa that is perfectly seasoned. To top it all off, the taco cone features generous portions of pico de gallo, queso, and homemade salsa verde.

For those with a sweet tooth, try the Deep Fried Bayou Fruit Bites. The fair is famous for deep fried everything, so why not deep fry some fruit? For this tasty sweet treat, healthy portions of fruit are deep fried in the family’s own special batter. The deep fried fruit is then topped with a drizzle of caramel sauce and whipped cream. For an added sweetness to the crazy good dessert, you can also add a combination of candy, chocolate chips, nuts and berries.

So next time you are at the fair, look for these and other great treats. Don’t be afraid to try them all. After all, that’s why you came to the fair in the first place.
