Cold Weather Slow-Cooker Favorites

With the colder weather on the rise, everyone, not just bears, tends to hibernate.

Cold, snow, darker days; all of this takes a toll on your family. No one feels like cooking and it just seems like there is never enough time. But with these slow cooker ideas, you can set it and forget it.

Crockpots have been around for awhile but until recently, they have been buried in your grandma’s pantry. But the benefits of a crockpot are definitely underrated. You can pre-make all of your meals and have them completely ready when you arrive home. The meals are warm and filling and can often fill that comfort food role that the winter times tend to make us crave. Some of our favorites are below and I think you should give them a try.

Because it’s my favorite, let’s start with dessert. How about a Rocky Road Chocolate Cake? The ooey gooey goodness that this slow cooker favorite creates is almost a crime. Imagine arriving home to a warm and gooey chocolate cake with graham crackers and melted marshmallows on top. I thought so… It’s actually super easy to make. Mix a cake like you normally would, add graham crackers and marshmallows on top and just wait for your arrival home.

For more of a traditional meal, you can make a Pork Loin with apples, bacon, and sauerkraut. Again, all of the items just get thrown into the slow cooker and the slow cooker does the rest. Start with a good rump roast and wrap it in bacon. Use baking twine to tie up the whole roast and put it in the slow cooker. Next, place cut up apples and sauerkraut around the roast in the pot and cook the whole package on low for 8-10 hours. It’s that simple.
