Not everyone finds the idea of raw fish appealing. Or the seaweed or really anything related to sushi. But that’s OK. Fear not sushi nay-sayer, one chef has completely changed the game and you might just want to give it a taste.
We all know sushi has become a cultural phenomenon taking over the globe. But a new Cuban style sushi may be the next big thing (maybe).
The House of Food Porn is a restaurant in Miami, Florida that is making quite a splash in the non-traditional Cuban food market. Chef Franco Antonio Blanco opened The House of Food Porn in 2016 after a successful catering business that was started four years before. His love for sushi started while he was in high school after trying sushi for the first time. To appeal to his parents’ traditional Cuban palette, Chef Franco began taking traditional Cuban dishes and putting them in to sushi style dishes.
One of the most popular rolls at The House of Food Porn is the Surf & Turf Roll. The roll starts out with sweet plantains instead of seaweed for the wrapper. Next the rolled out plantains are topped with mixed baby greens and again topped with seared bluefin tuna. The other half of the roll is constructed the same way but with fillet mignon. Both rolls are then garnished with a garlic aioli sauce and salmon eggs.
The House of Food Porn menu is quite robust. With flavors like plantains, avocado, and yuca, the sushi from House of Food Porn is a unique and tasty take on the classic food. So if you find yourself in Miami and you are in the mood for some good Cuban food, you might want to try a Cuban take on a Japanese classic.
