Winter Casseroles That Will Make You Melt

Time to replace the burgers and fries with hearty soups and stews.

Basically anything in a slow cooker is the perfect meal for the season. Nothing quite fits the cold and frigid weather quite like something warm and filling.

The casserole has been around for a long time. I’m not talking your grandma’s casserole that she would bake at every family gathering because “It was your favorite.” I mean a good hearty casserole with a modern day twist that has casseroles making their way back on the top of everyone’s list.

The potato in particular could quite possibly be the king (or queen) of all comfort foods. But in a casserole, the potato becomes next level. If you love potatoes, then you are going to want to try these new takes on a winter casserole.

With the additions of flavors like chorizo and onion and just about anything else, potatoes get spiced and can add to any meal. One example is a twist on the classic potatoes al gratin. Try adding frozen hash browns, cream of mushroom soup, and just a little bit of corn flakes to turn your old potatoes into a flavor explosion.

Having a football party in the near future? Why not try a take on two football classics- buffalo chicken and loaded baked potatoes. Try adding the buffalo chicken into a loaded potato casserole. Top with bacon and chives for the perfect winter casserole. If breakfast is more your thing, add potatoes to a pie crust to make a breakfast casserole. This quiche-like mixture is perfect of your next holiday gathering. Add a little rosemary to the top and make it a fancy twist on breakfast classics.
