Self-Care- Not Just For Women Anymore

Self-care has been taking over the internet these days.

Everything from parents treating themselves to rest from parenting to making sure that you are both mentally and physically healthy is now on the radar of people everywhere. Even Lada Gaga has memes about her and her self care routine that have gone viral all over the interwebs. It’s only going to continue to grow as more and more people jump on the latest trends.

Self-care is often thought of as things like going to the spa, getting massages, manicures and pedicures; years ago, this would have been something that only women would do. But as generations move on and millennials take over, we are starting to see a shift in the paradigm as more and more men began to reap the benefits of self-care.

According to a recent study by the American Med Spa Association, men spent more money on average last year on self care than women did by 13%. This includes aromatherapy baths, massages, and even manicures and pedicures. In fact, it is estimated that in the next 10 years, men will be responsible for 30% of the spa business, a 20% increase over the current numbers.

Men’s magazines have begun to push the trend even further stating that facials, botox, collagen, and microdermabrasion are some of the most beneficial and worthwhile spa treatments that men can do. Other activities like yoga have also seen an increase from men and for good reason. Yoga has been shown to not only improve your physical health but also your mental health, forcing relaxation and a clearing of the mind. Regardless of what you do for relaxation and reset or for just some simple “me time,” break the stigma and do something for yourself.
