Plus Sized Travel Tips

Planes are still the easiest and safest way to travel, but they do have their own problems.

Tickets, passports, long security lines, and crowded terminals all detract from the overall flying experience. Things get even more complicated when you’re a plus-sized traveller. Here are a few tips to help ease your mind and set yourself up for the best possible travel experience.

Before you book your next flight, you can visit the airline’s homepage and see the exact length of the airplane seat belts to ensure that it will be long enough and comfortable. If it’s not, don’t stress, you can always coordinate ahead of time for the airlines to provide you a seat belt extender for your flight. Don’t be sucked into cheap seat belt extenders from Amazon or Wal-Mart, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has strict guidelines and requirements for all seat belts and seat belt extenders. It’s important to always keep in mind that airlines may require people who use a seat belt extender to book an additional seat on the plane.

Another thing you can check before you book are the actual flight details for the plane itself. I’m not talking seat layout or number of seats. The size and style of the aircraft have a lot to do with the size of the seats. It isn’t airline specific, it’s more plane style and brand specific. It’s important to look in the specifications and layout for your exact plane, not just the airline company. One travel company, Sky Scanner, recommends newer style larger planes as they tend to have roomier seats and will be the most comfortable for larger passengers.

Either way, don’t let something like your size ruin your next trip before it gets started. Do your homework and Bon Voyage.
