Social distancing is leading more people to work out from home

With more developments surrounding the coronavirus coming to light, more businesses are required to shut their doors within the recommended measures of social distancing and closing non-essential businesses. This is leaving more people turning to an online alternative, especially when it comes to working out.

In 2018, the fitness industry was worth $94 billion according to The International Health, Racquet & Sportsclub Association which includes the online sector and is predicted to be the biggest source of income in the coming months. More gyms and health clubs are offering online options in lieu of a physical studio or gym, but with more people cautioned to stay home the online fitness industry is booming.

This industry shift is already experiencing the benefits of more people looking for online options when it comes to fitness and working out. The company behind the interactive home fitness system, MIRROR, has seen a double increase in the sales of their full-length mirror fitness system that costs $1,495 per unit.

More fitness companies are looking to shift their focus from operating their studios to offering more programs that can be accessed online. For online-only fitness companies, they’re already ahead of their competition that focuses on operating mainly through brick-and-mortar locations.

The online streaming service for fitness and workout videos, Obé, is seeing a huge increase in sales and memberships as they offer everything online already. The co-founders, Ashley Mills and Mark Mullett, explain that Obé is seeing a considerable increase in membership in America within the last couple of weeks. Obé is a popular service as they team up with KidzBop to create family-friendly activities for the kids and parents to enjoy.

Most online fitness programs require memberships and fees, but you can get free resources on staying active through social media and watching fitness videos on YouTube.
