Celebrating women empowerment

When you hear Mrs. America, you might think of the beauty pageant but a new limited series will have you think of the most politically charged era for women’s empowerment, the Women’s Liberation Movement. FX on Hulu will be featuring a limited-series about the time of female empowerment entitled “Mrs. America” and features a star-studded cast of powerful female actors.

The cast of talented actors includes Sarah Paulson (Alice), Rose Byrne (Gloria Steinem), Cate Blanchett (Phyllis Schlafly), Uzo Aduba (Shirley Chisholm), and more. The story follows Paulson’s character, Alice, is living in the era during the battle surrounding the passing of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) during the 70s, granting legal gender equality for women and men.

During the ratifying period of the ERA, a woman conservative political activist, Phyllis Schlafly, opposed the passing of the ERA and publicly went against the women’s movement being anti-feminist. Schlafly was known as “the sweetheart of the silent majority” and used her political influence to arrange a public debate with famous women’s rights activist, Gloria Steinem.

Judging from the recent teaser trailer, this limited series looks too good to miss. “Mrs. America” is set to premiere on FX on Hulu starting April 15.
