The discussions on makeup versus no makeup, today, is a point of much contention. Some believe that makeup is used to make someone feel more like themselves, while others view makeup as covering up your own natural beauty. For Aysha Harun, her makeup is an extension of her beauty that she learned to accept and now is happy and confident both with and without her makeup on.
Aysha Harun is a beauty influencer with over a quarter of a million subscribers on YouTube. More importantly, she is a black Muslim woman who is sharing her mantra of self-love and beauty with the world. Growing up, she never thought she would be accepted by western views of beauty.
It affected the way she thought about herself and even the activities she did as a child. Today, she has accepted herself and her imperfections and is speaking out against makeup shaming while also inspiring and motivating young girls everywhere to do the same. “Beauty isn’t one specific standard. Beauty is just who you are,” remarked Aysha.
