Shannen Doherty reveals second breast cancer diagnosis

If you’re familiar with Shannen Doherty, known for her roles on “90210” and “Charmed,” then you may know about her previous diagnosis of breast cancer. In light of World Cancer Day, Doherty announced that she received her second diagnosis of breast cancer on ACB News’ “Good Morning America” this morning.

Doherty goes onto reveal that she was diagnosed nearly a year ago and is currently in stage 4. She was first diagnosed in 2015, undergoing treatment for two years until she reached remission in 2017.

Doherty agreed to work on the “90210” re-boot of “BH90210” working 16-hour days while going through treatment to prove herself and others that people can work with stage 4 cancer. During filming “BH91210” Doherty says that she didn’t tell many people but confided in her co-star Brian Austin Green on set and he was a support system for her.

She was also concerned that her diagnosis would be made public as she believed it would be mentioned in a lawsuit she filed against the insurance company, State Farm. The lawsuit stipulates that the insurer, State Farm, denied claims Doherty made after her house was damaged during the Woolsey wildfire in 2018.

Doherty says she attempted to communicate with State Farm and she was passed around to several claims adjusters without any resolve so she filed the lawsuit. She is still dealing with the lawsuit through her cancer treatment.

Doherty says that it was ‘a bitter pill to swallow’ but doesn’t want to hide her diagnosis any longer. Fans and celebrities have expressed their sympathies and #ShannenDoherty was trending on Twitter.
