The modern bride is making her mark

Millennials, like all of the generations before them, are changing everything about American society. Everything from social media to avocado toast is different than the previous generations. Even the way millennials approach and think about weddings have had a profound impact on the industry today.

Millennials, unlike the previous generations, value experiences over material things. Because of this, society is seeing a shift in previous societal norms and values. No longer are millennials buying or saving fine china, spending two and a half month’s salary on a wedding ring, or looking to buy the biggest and nicest house in the neighborhood. Now, less is more and intangible things have taken priority over traditionally valued things.

Marriage in the United States has not changed. Sure there have been advances in equal marriage rights, but the act of marriage itself has not changed. But everything else has…

Women are waiting longer to get married these days and when they are, they aren’t going into debt and spending tens of thousands of dollars for the one-day celebration. The effect of this can be seen in the fashion industry. Millennials are spending less on wedding gowns and going more toward second hand or other sustainable choices when choosing what to wear on that special day.
