Relax with 5 minutes of breathing exercise. Sit or lie down, put your index finger between the brows, and your ring finger on your nostrils. Take a deep breath and exhale through the other nostril. Close your eyes, and continue breathing while switching between nostrils.

Spend the next two minutes writing down three things that you are grateful for. You probably know that gratitude is an essential part of happiness because it’s a mindful reminder of what we have. Gratitude is the opposite of future anxieties and dwelling on the past.

In the next five minutes, do something for someone else. It can be as simple as petting your dogs, helping out a neighbor, or feeding the birds. You can even write an honest review of a restaurant or wellness center, which will help strangers who are looking for guidance and recommendations. The selfless acts are making us more emotionally intelligent, and additionally, you’re developing empathy.

Finally, give yourself 20 minutes to learn something new. Use an app to learn a new language, have a conversation with a friend about something inspiring. Try out an original healthy recipe, as long as it is positive and informative; it will be an excellent way to start the day finally.

Don’t count the days, instead focus on your routine, look forward to it, and you’ll notice the changes before you know it.
