Sick or Playing Hooky?

With these complex and busy times, it’s easy to forget about taking care of yourself.

It seems that almost everything takes priority over taking care of yourself. Even simple means of self care can go by the wayside when business meetings and important deadlines are in the picture. So with that in mind, it’s not too far-fetched that some people actually enjoy being sick.

That’s right, according to a recent study, 29% of people actually like being sick. To them, it grants a break from their day to day and can even give them some time to reset. Well, maybe not reset, but at least get the opportunity to turn their brains off from work. Along the same vein, 40% of respondents said that being sick offered them time to focus on themselves.

So what do most people do when they are home and sick? Well, according to the study, 58% of people spend their day laying in bed. Laying in bed does beat work, even if you are sick, plus it gives you some time to recharge. Other stay-home-sick activities include eating soup, watching old movies, and having a warm cup of coffee or tea.

Probably the best part of being sick is catching up on sleep. The long days can wear on you and you may never feel like you can never catch up. Staying home from work sick can give you that extra 12 hours you might just need. Or maybe you just need to watch one of your favorite shows that you haven’t had time to focus on. I’m not advocating you play hooky or skip work, but if you have to be sick, you should use it to your advantage and come back healthy and refreshed. After all, you do deserve some self love and care.
