Never Made Pecan Pie Before?
A classic pecan pie is the taste of comfort. It’s sweet, nutty, and rich with a buttery crunch. Making it from scratch is easier than it sounds and fills your kitchen with that warm, caramel aroma that defines the holidays.
Method
Make the crust
- In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or fork until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Shape it into a disk, wrap, and chill for at least 30 minutes.
Prepare the filling
- In another bowl, whisk together corn syrup, brown sugar, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, and salt until smooth. Stir in the pecans and set aside.
Assemble the pie
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Trim the edges and crimp them neatly. Pour the pecan mixture into the crust, spreading the nuts evenly.
Bake
- Bake in a preheated oven at 175°C (350°F) for about 50–55 minutes. The pie should be set around the edges but slightly soft in the center. If the crust browns too quickly, cover the edges with foil.
Cool and serve
- Let the pie cool completely before slicing to allow the filling to set. Serve as is, or add a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
