Five Female Entrepreneurs Taking On The World

It’s a tough world out there for women, even today. For whatever reason, some industries seem to push hard against successful women in their midst. But take heart, readers, because there are some go-getters out there that are pushing right back, twice as hard. Courtesy of Inc., here are a few female entrepreneurs who have staked a mighty claim in several industries.

Lisa Q. Fetterman, Nomiku Meals

Fetterman invented a special smart cooker to make cooking easier, but her sales were hindered by knockoff products. So, she shifted her focus to the food itself, developing her own recipes and consulting with Michelin-star chefs. Now she sells the smart cookers at a minor loss, but makes more than double her revenue selling special vacuum-packed meals for delivery. Tap a packed meal to the cooker to scan, thirty minutes later, boom, dinner.

Sevetri Wilson, Resilia

Wilson originally ran a consulting agency for small nonprofits. Problem was, small nonprofits that need consulting usually can’t afford it. So, Wilson shifted her focus to software, developing a program, Resilia, that could help nonprofits become smarter and faster at a fraction of her previous cost. Originally only used by newcomers, Resilia now has a place with foundations, cities, and a few big-name organizations. The company’s getting a new New York City office next month.

Ennie Lim, HoneyBee

After a bad divorce royally screwed her credit score, Lim’s only avenue of lending was payday lenders. That wasn’t good enough, so she developed something new: HoneyBee. HoneyBee works with employers to give those with lower incomes a chance to secure loans for work-critical payments like health and travel. They’ve already secured over a million dollars in loans, and are planning to be available in all 50 states this time next year.

Melonee Wise, Fetch Robotics

In the age of automated manufacturing and delivery, a good robot is critical. Wise’s robots are not only sturdy, but smart. As they travel and make deliveries, they’re constantly absorbing more data about the world around them. A blockage in the path that stalls delivery can be learned from and circumvented the next time around. There’s around seven hundred of Fetch Robotics’ robots deployed around the world, with their most recent client being the high-profile Universal Logistics, who plan to use the robots for hauling car parts in multiple large-scale factories.

Jennifer Fitzgerald, Policygenius

During the financial crisis, Fitzgerald worked as an adviser to several large insurance companies. After learning their ins and outs, she came to the realization that she could do them one better. Her company, Policygenius, started out selling simple life insurance plans to millennials. At the start of 2019, the company also began selling home and auto insurance. The growth has been so rapid, Fitzgerald has actually had a little difficulty keeping up with recruitment. Not a bad problem to have, though.
