Can Prince George Save The Royal Christmas?

Who’s going to meet the Queen over the Holidays?

To say that this was not a great year for the British Royals is an understatement. The Royals had their share of scandals, but this year was particularly hard, and everyone is wondering: who’s coming for a traditional Christmas walk and who’s skipping it?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made several decisions that aren’t against the Crown, but they are somewhat controversial. Their tour of South Africa was doing great until the couple decided to sue some of the British media outlets, and then there was that documentary… We aren’t saying that Meghan and Harry didn’t get their share of bad press. It’s a well-known fact that British tabloids can be relentless. But there was something strange about complaining while being on an official tour in the poorest parts of the world. If anything, the Royal couple just opened the door to more criticism, and no, they won’t be spending Christmas in Norfolk with other royals.

Then there’s an even bigger issue in the form of Prince Andrew. Even if you don’t care about the Royals, you heard about his infamous BBC interview. There’s no confirmation, but it is safe to say that Queen’s second son won’t be enjoying Christmas festivities with his family. It is too risky: What if protesters join the crowd outside the church as the world’s media gather to cover Christmas Day? We won’t go into details since Prince Andrew’s case should not be in the papers; it’s a serious legal matter, and no amount of writing “allegedly” will change that.

Prince Phillip is retired and 98, so chances of seeing him are slim to none. We will get to see Prince William and Kate, The Wessexes, Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall. However, it won’t be a real crowd-pleaser unless the Cambriges bring at least Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The Royal family desperately needs some good press, and the little ones will surely make it all about them.

The decision is up to their parents, William and Kate, who are trying to give their three children a somewhat normal upbringing. The Cambridges are now caught between a rock and a hard place: if they do bring at least one child, it will be perceived as selling kids for PR. On the other hand, young George is old enough to be part of the traditions.

Monarchy survived centuries because the members have the perfect “poker face.” But playing happy family isn’t enough, not anymore. So, really, can Prince George save the Royal Christmas? We’ll find out soon enough.
