Besides getting to spend your life with the person you love, there could also be added health benefits.

There has been lots of research and multiple studies done on the socio-economic effects of people and their likeliness to develop certain diseases and illnesses. However, there has been little to no research done on the effect of marriage on illnesses like Alzheimer’s or dementia.

In the first of its kind research, the University of Michigan has studied the effects of marriage on dementia. The study broke people into different categories. The categories included separated and divorced, widowed, never married, and co-habitating. According to the study, the people with the highest rick for dementia were those that had been separated or divorced from a partner.

Other studies from the Emory University have concluded that single people are at a higher risk to develop heart disease than their counterparts that were in a relationship. If this isn’t reason enough to stop dragging your feet and pop the question, I don’t know what is.
