Beat the cold weather and mood swings to enjoy your culinary creations and exercising!

Once the holidays are over, it’s not unusual to notice a few extra pounds, mood changes, or dry, dull skin. Holidays are hard, both physically and mentally, and that’s why a January detox is going to help you bounce back and be your old self in no time.

Since it’s wintertime (at least on this part of the Earth), your immune system might need an extra boost. Instead of drinking only coffee, give tea a try. Green tea is one of the healthiest beverages ever; it’s full of antioxidants and nutrients. It helps burns fat and boosts your metabolic rate. You don’t have to give up coffee altogether, but replace at least one cup with green tea.

It almost sounds absurd, but many of us are guilty of not drinking enough water, especially during winter months. Some apps can help with dehydrated body, and detoxifying your body. By water, we mean just that: water, not tea, juice or any other beverage.

Add herbs to prevent flu. Siberian ginseng helps the body adapt to stress and increases vitality. Ginger is a circulatory stimulant, which stimulates the heart and circulation, creating a warming effect on the body. Garlic is probably the most powerful natural anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral herb that exists. Echinacea activates our immune system and enhances lymph function, which houses white blood cells. Add these herbs to your meals, and you will notice changes rather quickly.

Eat more soups, because they will help you to incorporate more vegetables into your diet. Switching dinner for soup as part of a balanced diet can be a great way to lose weight, hydrate, and still feel as full as you do eating a sandwich or burger. Dedicating your time to creating culinary delights will help fight off the feeling of emptiness we tend to catch after the holidays.

Finally, it’s time to start acting on one of the most common New Year’s resolutions – getting regular exercise. It’s a wonderful natural mood enhancer, and joining a gym or yoga classes will open the door to new friendships. If you think you’re too busy or too tired, remember that at least 150 minutes of physical activity over a week will make you feel more energized and help with everyday stresses.

Once the holiday decorations are off, we tend to get sad, and walking during daylight might help. Catching glimpses of the sun, combining with regular exercise and healthier eating habits will help you beat the post-holiday feelings and beating the winter blues.
